Disassembly and Assembly
DISASSEMBLY
NOTE: When using a vise, do not overtighten it.
Non-Tilt Steering Column / 1 Of 2:
Non-Tilt Steering Column / 2 Of 2:
1. Remove the column upper bracket and the column upper clamp by doing the following.
a. Using a centering punch, mark the center of the two tapered-head bolts.
b. Using a 3 - 4 mm (0.12 - 0.16 inch) drill, drill into the two bolts.
c. Using a screw extractor, remove the two bolts.
2. Remove the main shaft assembly after doing these steps.
a. Using snap ring expander, remove the snap ring from the shaft assembly.
b. Using a plastic hammer, tap out the shaft assembly from the column tube.
c. Using snap ring expander, remove the snap ring from the shaft assembly.
3. Remove the steering support after doing the following.
a. Remove the set bolt and nut.
b. Remove the two steering support No.1 collars.
ASSEMBLY
NOTE: When using a vise, do not overtighten it.
Non-Tilt Steering Column / 1 Of 2:
Non-Tilt Steering Column / 2 Of 2:
1. Coat the assembly with the molybdenum disulfide lithium base grease.
2. Install the steering support by doing the following.
a. Install the two steering support No.1 collars.
b. Tighten the set bolt and nut to 5.4 Nm (48 inch lbs.).
3. Install the main shaft assembly by doing these steps.
a. Using snap ring expander, install a new snap ring to the shaft assembly.
b. Install the shaft assembly to the column tube.
c. Using snap ring expander, install a new snap ring to the shaft assembly.
4. Install the column upper bracket and the column upper clamp, then tighten the two new tapered-head bolts until the bolts head break off.
