Fluid Pressure Check

1. Connect the Special Service Tool (SST) and do the following.

a. Disconnect the pressure feed tube from the PS vane pump.

b. Connect the 09640 - 10010 (09641 - 01010. 09641 - 01030, 09641 - 01060) SST, as shown in the illustration.

NOTE: Check that the valve of the SST is in the open position.

2. Bleed the power steering system.
3. Boost the fluid temperature by doing the following.
a. Start the engine and run it at idle.
b. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock sever times to boost fluid temperature to 80°C (176°F).

4. Check the fluid pressure reading with valve closed .With the engine idling, close the valve of the SST and observe the reading on the SST. The minimum fluid pressure should be 6,374 kPa (925 psi).

NOTE:
^ Do not keep the valve closed for more than 10 seconds.
^ Do not let the fluid temperature become too high.

5. Check the fluid pressure reading with the valve opened and do the following.
a. With the engine idling, open the valve fully.
b. Measure the fluid pressure at engine speeds of 1,000 rpm and 3,000 rpm. The fluid pressure difference should be 490 kPa (71 psi). or less

NOTE: Do not turn the steering wheel.

6. Check the fluid pressure reading with the steering wheel turned to full lock. With the engine idling and valve fully opened, turn the wheel to full lock. The minimum fluid pressure should be 6,374 kPa (925 psi).

NOTE:
^ Do not maintain lock position for more than 10 seconds.

^ Do not let the fluid temperature become too high.

7. Disconnect the SST, then connect the pressure feed tube.
8. Bleed the power steering system.
