Removal and Installation
NOTE: On models with coded audio anti-theft systems, refer to Technician Safety Information for code procedures. On models with air bag system, disarm airbag system as outlined under Technician Safety Information.1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air duct.
3. Disconnect speedometer cable, then remove throttle cable from throttle link.
4. Remove upper side mounting bolts.
5. Disconnect starter cable and electrical connector, then the starter attaching bolts and starter.
6. Raise and support vehicle.
7. Drain transmission fluid, then the differential fluid.
8. Remove engine undercover.
9. Remove clip from control cable, then disconnect control cable from lever.
10. Disconnect driveshafts, then suspend using suitable wire or cord.
11. Disconnect oil cooler hose from pipe.
12. Remove exhaust pipe to engine attaching bolts, disconnect oxygen sensor electrical connector, then remove rear exhaust pipe attaching bolts, then remove.
13. Disconnect neutral start switch electrical connector.
14. Remove six torque converter attaching bolts. Rotate crankshaft to gain access to each bolt.
15. Disconnect bond cable from LH engine mounting bracket, then remove LH mounting attaching bolts and LH mount.
16. Support engine and transaxle with two suitable jacks, then remove four support bolts and disconnect rear mount bracket from body. Remove three bolts and engine rear mounting bracket.
17. Remove transaxle mount bolts, then separate torque converter from transaxle.
18. Reverse procedure to install. On models with air bag system, rearm airbag system as outlined under Technician Safety Information. If audio system was disabled, activate as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
