Fuel Injector: Service and Repair



INJECTORS REMOVAL

1. Disconnect Negative Terminal Cable From Battery

CAUTION (w/ SRS): Work must be started after 90 seconds from the time the ignition switch is turned to the - LOCK position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.

2. Remove Air Cleaner Cap And Hose

3. Disconnect Accelerator Cable

4. A/T: Disconnect throttle cable

5. Disconnect Vacuum Sensing Hose From Fuel Pressure Regulator

6. Disconnect Fuel Return Hose From Fuel Return Pipe

NOTE: Catch leaking in a container.






7. Disconnect Fuel Return Pipe From Fuel Pressure Regulator






8. Disconnect Fuel Inlet Pipe From Delivery Pipe

Remove the union bolt, 2 gaskets and inlet pipe.

9. Disconnect Injector Connectors

10. Remove Delivery Pipe With Injectors






a. Remove the 2 bolts and delivery pipe together with the 4 injectors.

NOTE: Be careful not to drop the injectors when removing the delivery pipe.

b. Pull out the 4 injectors from the delivery pipe.

c. Remove the 2 spacers and 4 insulators from the cylinder head.




INJECTORS INSTALLATION

1. Install Injectors And Delivery Pipe






a. Install a new grommet to the injector.

b. Apply a light coat of gasoline to an O-ring and install it to the injector.






c. While turning the injector to the left and right, install it to the delivery pipe. Install the 4 injectors.





HINT: Alternately install the No.1 injectors with dark blue connectors and No. 2 injectors with brown connectors as shown in the illustration.






d. Place the 2 spacers and 4 insulators in position on the cylinder head.

e. Place the injectors together with the delivery pipe on the cylinder head.






f. Install the 2 bolts. Torque the bolts.

Torque: 19 N.m (190 kgf.cm, 14 ft. lbf.)






g. Check that the injectors rotate smoothly.

HINT: If the injectors do not rotate smoothly, the probable cause is incorrect installation of O-rings. Replace the O-rings.

2. Connect Injector Connectors

Connect the gray connectors to the No.1 injectors and the brown connectors to No.2 injectors.

3. Connect Fuel Inlet Pipe To Delivery Pipe






Install 2 new gaskets. the inlet pipe and union bolt.

Torque: 29 N.m (300 kgf.cm, 22 ft. lbf.)






4. Connect Fuel Return Pipe To Fuel Pressure Regulator

5. Connect Fuel Return Hose To Fuel Return Pipe

6. Connect Vacuum Sensing Hose To Fuel Pressure Regulator

7. A/T: Connect Throttle Cable, And Adjust It

8. Connect Accelerator Cable, And Adjust It

9. Install Air Cleaner Cap And Hose

10. Install PCV Hoses

11. Connect Negative Terminal Cable To Battery

12. Check For Fuel Leaks
