Components For Cylinder Block Removal And Installation (2 Of 2):






1. On models with air bag system, disarm airbag system as outlined under Technician Safety Information. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove battery and coolant reserve tank.
2. Scribe reference marks in engine hood hinge area, then remove hood.
3. Remove engine undercovers.
4. Drain engine coolant into suitable container.
5. Remove radiator.
6. On models with cruise control, disconnect control cable and connector, then remove actuator attaching bolts and the actuator.
7. Disconnect accelerator cable.
8. On models with automatic transaxle, disconnect transaxle throttle cable.
9. Remove PCV hoses, then remove air cleaner assembly with air intake.
10. Disconnect fuel hoses from fuel pump and plug open ends.
11. Remove charcoal canister.
12. Disconnect brake booster hose.
13. Disconnect vacuum sensor hose, A/C idle-up hose, idle-up vacuum transmitting hose and power steering idle-up hose.
14. Disconnect heater hoses.
15. Disconnect speedometer cable from transaxle.
16. Disconnect transaxle control cables from transaxle.
17. On models with automatic transaxle, remove control cable bracket.
18. On models with manual transaxle, remove clutch slave cylinder from transaxle and position aside. Do not disconnect hydraulic lines.
19. Remove starter.
20. On models with manual transaxle, remove gear selector bell crank.
21. Disconnect the following electrical connectors:
a. Oxygen sensor.
b. Oil pressure switch.
c. Water temperature sender gauge.
d. Water temperature sensor.
e. On models with manual transaxle, back-up light and neutral start switch.
f. Distributor connectors.
g. Water temperature switch.
h. On California models, throttle opener VSV.
i. On models with A/C, A/C idle-up VSV.
j. Wiper motor.
k. Vacuum sensor.
l. Igniter connector.
m. Four injector connectors.
n. Throttle position sensor.
o. Cylinder head ground strap.
p. Starter and alternator connectors.
22. On models with power steering, remove pump from engine with hoses attached and position aside.
23. On models with A/C, remove compressor with hoses attached and position aside.
24. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
25. Disconnect driveshafts from transaxle.
26. Attach suitable engine lifting equipment, then remove rear mount through bolt and insulator.
27. Remove front mount through bolt, then the front mount from the cylinder block.
28. Remove right side mount through bolt and insulator.
29. Disconnect ground strap.
30. Remove left side mount attaching bolts, then the mount.
31. Carefully lift engine and transaxle assembly from vehicle and place on suitable stand.
32. Remove starter from engine.
33. On models with automatic transaxle, remove flywheel inspection cover, then rotate crankshaft as necessary to loosen six torque converter attaching bolts.
34. Remove transaxle from engine.
35. Reverse procedure to install.
36. On models with air bag system, rearm airbag system as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
