Disassembly and Assembly
1. Remove caliper.2. Remove sliding bushing and boot, then the main pin boot.
3. Using screwdriver, remove cylinder boot set ring and cylinder boot.
4. Using tool 09719-14020, or equivalent, turn piston counterclockwise to remove.
5. Using screwdriver, remove piston seal.
6. Place tool 09756-00010, or equivalent, onto adjusting bolt and lightly tighten bolt using 14 mm socket. Always use tool, or equivalent or spring may fly out and cause personal injury or damage interior surface of caliper. Do not tighten tool too tightly as this may damage spring retainer.
7. Using suitable tool, remove snap ring from cylinder.
8. Pull spring retainer, spring, spring plate and stopper out of cylinder together with adjusting bolt, being careful not to damage O-ring.
9. Disassemble adjusting bolt as follows:
a. Remove adjusting bolt guide nut tool No. 09756-00010, or equivalent.
b. Remove spring retainer, spring, spring plate and stopper from adjusting bolt.
c. Remove O-ring from adjusting bolt.
10. Remove parking brake strut, then on Corolla models, the parking brake cable support bracket.
11. Remove torsion spring from parking brake crank.
12. Remove parking brake crank from caliper.
13. If parking brake crank boot is to be replaced, use screwdriver to lightly tap on metal portion of boot to remove it. If crank boot is not to be replaced, do not remove it.
14. Remove cable support bracket.
15. Using pin punch, tap out the stopper pin.
16. Apply lithium soap base glycol grease to all moving parts.
17. Tap stopper pin into caliper until pin extends .98 inch.
18. Press surface of cable support bracket flush against cylinder wall and torque bolt to 34 ft. lbs.
19. If removed, install parking brake crank boot in caliper.
20. Install parking brake crank in caliper, securely matching crank boot with groove of crank seal.
21. Install torsion spring, ensuring that parking brake crank subassembly is in touch with stopper pin.
22. Install parking brake strut after adjusting rollers of needle roller bearing so they do not catch on caliper hole.
23. Install new O-ring on adjusting bolt.
24. Assemble adjusting bolt as follows:
a. Assemble stopper, plate, spring and spring retainer to adjusting bolt and, using adjusting bolt guide nut tool No. 09756-00010, or equivalent, fully tighten components down manually. Position scribed surface of stopper upward and align notches of spring case with notches of stopper.
b. Install adjusting bolt subassembly into cylinder.
25. Using suitable tool, install snap ring, facing snap ring opening toward bleeder side, then remove tool from adjusting bolt and firmly pull up adjusting bolt manually to ensure it does not move.
26. Manually move parking brake crank to ensure adjusting bolt moves smoothly.
27. Install piston seal in cylinder.
28. Assemble piston in cylinder as follows:
a. Using rear disc brake tool No. 09719-14020, or equivalent, slowly screw in piston clockwise until it will not descend any further.
b. Align center of piston stopper groove with positioning protrusion of cylinder.
29. Install cylinder boot and set ring in cylinder.
30. Install main pin boot.
31. Install dust boot, ensuring that seal does not fold under, then install bushing into boot with flange facing inside.
32. Install master cylinder.
33. Fill reservoir with brake fluid and bleed system.
