IGNITION TIMING ADJUSTMENT
1. Allow engine to warm up to normal operating temperature

Timing Connector Terminals In Data Link Connector (DLC) 1:




2. Using Special Service Tool (SST) (09843-18020), connect terminals TE1 and E1 of DLC 1.
HINT: After engine rpm is kept at 1,000 - 1,300 rpm for 5 seconds, check that it returns to idle speed.
3. Using a timing light, check the ignition timing.


Timing Marks On Harmonic Balancer:




Ignition timing: 10° BTDC @ Idle
(Transmission in neutral position)




4. To adjust timing, loosen the 2 bolts, and adjust by turning the distributor.
5. Tighten the bolts, and recheck the ignition timing.
Torque: 19 Nm (14 ft lb)




6. Remove the SST from DLC1.
7. Check ignition timing again.

Ignition Timing Range With SST Disconnected From DLC1:




Ignition timing: 0°- 10° BTDC @ idle
(Transmission in neutral position)
HINT: The timing mark moves in a range between 0° and 10°.
