Components For Distributor Removal:

DISTRIBUTOR REMOVAL

1. Disconnect negative (-) terminal cable from battery.
CAUTION: Work must be started after 90 seconds from the time the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.
2. Remove air cleaner cap.
(a) Disconnect the following connector, cord, cables and hoses:

Components For Distributor Removal And Replacement:

(1) IAT sensor connector
(2) High-tension cord from air cleaner hose
(3) Accelerator cable from clamp
(4) Cruise control actuator cable from clamps
(5) Air hose for idle-up from air cleaner hose
(b) Disconnect the 4 clamps, and disconnect the air cleaner cap from the air cleaner case.
(c) Loosen the hose clamp, and disconnect the air cleaner hose from the throttle body.
(d) Remove the air cleaner cap and air cleaner hose assembly.

Distributor Connector Location:

3. Disconnect distributor connector
distributor 4. Disconnect high-tension cords from spark plugs and ignition coil

(a) Disconnect the 4 high-tension cords from the clamp on the cylinder head cover.
(b) Disconnect the high - tension cords at the rubber boot. Do not pull on the high-tension cords.
NOTICE: Pulling on or bending the cords may damage the conductor inside.
5. Remove distributor with high-tension cords.

(a) Remove the bolt. and pull out the distributor.
(b) Remove the 0-ring from the distributor housing.

DISTRIBUTOR INSTALLATION
1. Remove RH engine under cover.
2. Set No.1 cylinder to TDC/Compression.

Alignment Of The Intake Camshaft For Distributor Installation:

-Turn the crankshaft clockwise, and position the slit of the intake camshaft as shown in the illustration.
3. Install distributor.

(a) Install a new 0-ring to the distributor housing.
(b) Apply a light coat of engine oil on the 0-ring.

Align The Distributor Shaft With The Camshaft:

(c) Align the cutout portion of the coupling with the groove of the housing.
(d) Insert the distributor, aligning the center of the flange with that of the bolt hole on the cylinder head.

(e) Lightly tighten the bolt.
4. Connect high-tension cords to Spark plugs and ignition coil.
(a) Connect the 5 high-tension cords to the spark plugs and ignition coil.
Firing order: 1 - 3 - 4 - 2
(b) Install the 4 high-tension cords to the cord clamps on the cylinder head cover.
5. Connect distributor connector.

Distributor Connector Location:

6. Install air cleaner cap.

(a) Connect the air cleaner hose to the throttle body.
(b) Install the air cleaner cap to the air cleaner case with the 4 clamps.
(c) Tighten the hose clamp.
(d) Connect the following connector, cord, cables and hoses:
(1) IAT sensor connector
(2) High-tension cord to air cleaner hose
(3) Accelerator cable to clamp
(4) Cruise control actuator cable to clamps
(5) Air hose for idle-up to air cleaner hose
7. Connect negative (-) terminal cable to battery
8. Allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature

9. Connect tachometer and timing light to engine

Timing Connector Terminals In Data Link Connector (DLC) 1:

-Connect the tester probe of a tachometer to terminal IG (-) of the DLC1.
NOTICE:
- Never allow the tachometer terminal to touch ground as it could result in damage to the igniter and/or ignition coil.
- As some tachometers are not compatible with this ignition system, we recommend that you confirm the compatibility of your unit before use.
10. Adjust ignition timing
(a) Using Special Service Tool (SST) (09843-18020), connect terminals TE1 and E1 of the DLC 1.

Timing Marks On Harmonic Balancer:

(b) Using a timing light, check the ignition timing.
(Transmission in neutral position)
Ignition timing: 10° BTDC @ idle

(c) Loosen the bolt, and adjust by turning the distributor.
(d) Tighten the bolt, and recheck the ignition timing.
Torque: 19 Nm (14 ft lb)

(e) Remove the SST from the DLC1.
11. Further check ignition timing. (Transmission in neutral position)

Ignition Timing Range With SST Disconnected From DLC1:

Ignition timing: 0 ° - 10° BTDC @ idle
HINT: The timing mark moves in a range between O° and 10°.
12. Disconnect tachometer and timing light from engine.
13. Reinstall RH engine under cover.
