Evaporative Emissions System: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
To reduce HC emission. evaporated fuel from the Fuel Tank is routed through the Charcoal Canister to the Intake Manifold for combustion in the cylinders.

OPERATION

Fuel vapors inside the Fuel Tank are routed to a canister containing activated charcoal, which absorbs and holds the vapors, preventing them from entering the atmosphere.

EVAP System Components - Operating Conditions:

During certain operating conditions, fresh air is drawn into and through the Charcoal Canister, flushing the vapors into the throttle body and into the intake air stream.
