Inspection Procedures
DTC 42 No.1 Vehicle Speed Sensor Circuit
VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1. Measure voltage between terminal SPD of Combination Meter connector and body ground.
a. Shift the shift lever to "N" position.
b. Jack up one of the front wheels.
c. Disconnect the Cruise Control Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and Progressive Power Steering connectors.
d. Turn ignition switch ON.
e. Measure voltage between terminal SPD of Combination Meter connector and body ground when slowly turning the jacked up wheel.
Voltage:
- Constantly 0 volts - Go to Step 2.
- Constantly 4 - 6 volts - Check combination meter circuit.
- Changes 0 v<->4 v<->6 v - Replace engine control module (ECM).
2. Measure voltage between terminals SPD and E1 of ECM.
a. Disconnect Combination Meter and Cruise Control ECU connectors.
b. Turn ignition switch ON.
c. Measure voltage between terminals SPD and E1 of the ECM connectors.
Expected Voltage: 4 - 6 volts
^ OK - Check harness between combination meter and ECM.
^ NG - Replace ECM.
