Inspection Procedure
DTC 42 No.1 Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal Circuit
INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1. Drive the vehicle and check if the operation of the speedometer in the combination meter is normal.
Hint: The No.1 vehicle speed sensor is operating normally if the speedometer display is normal.
- If OK proceed to step 2.
- If not OK check speedometer circuit.
2. Check voltage between terminal SPD of engine control module connector and body ground.
(a) Turn up the floor mat on the passenger side.
(b) Disconnect cruise control ECU connector.
(c) Shift the shift lever to N position or neutral.
(d) Jack up a front wheel on one side.
(e) Turn ignition switch ON.
- Measure voltage between terminal SPD of engine control module connector and body ground when the wheel is turned slowly.
OK if: Voltage is generated intermittently.
- If OK, check and replace engine control module (ECM).
- If not OK check speedometer circuit.
INSPECTION USING AN OSCILLOSCOPE
VSS Waveform:
- Waveform between terminals SPD and E1 when vehicle speed is approx. 12 mph (20 km/h).
HINT: The greater the vehicle speed, the greater the number of pulses the No.1 vehicle speed sensor signals produces.
