Code 71 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation System Malfunction

Data Trouble Code No. 71 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation System Malfunction

Detecting Condition (2 trip detection)
EGR gas temperature is at a predetermined temperature or below for 50 seconds under the following conditions:
- Engine coolant temperature 80°C (176°F) or more.
- Exhaust gas recirculation operation possible (i.e., automatic transmission in 3rd gear or manual transmission in 5th gear), 55 - 60 mph (88 - 96 km/h), flat road.

Trouble Area
^ Open in EGR gas temperature sensor circuit.
^ Short in exhaust gas recirculation vacuum switching valve circuit.
^ Exhaust gas recirculation hose disconnected.
^ Clogged exhaust gas recirculation gas passage.
^ Engine control module.
