DTC 16 A/T Control Signal Malfunction

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The signal from the automatic transmission central processing unit (CPU) retards the ignition timing of the engine during automatic transmission shifting, thus momentarily reducing torque output of the engine for smooth clutch operation inside the transmission and reduced shift shock.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DETECTING CONDITION
Fault in communications between the engine central processing unit and automatic transmission CPU in the ECM. If the ECM detects DTC 16 in memory, it prohibits the torque control of the automatic transmission which performs smooth gear shifting.
