Code 71 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation System Malfunction

Data Trouble Code No. 71 - EGR System Malfunction

Detecting Condition
EGR gas temperature is 70°C (158°F) or below for 50 seconds under the following conditions (2 trip detection);
- Engine coolant temperature 80°C (176°F) or more.
- EGR operation possible i.e., automatic transmission in 3rd gear or manual transmission in 5th gear, 88 - 96 km/h (55 - 60 mph), flat road.

Trouble Area
- Open in EGR gas temperature sensor circuit.
- Short in VSV for EGR circuit.
- EGR hose disconnected.
- Clogged EGR gas passage.
- ECM.
