Knock Sensor: Service and Repair
INSPECTION OF KNOCK SENSORS
1. DISCONNECT NEGATIVE TERMINAL CABLE FROM BATTERY.
CAUTION: Work must not be started for at least 90 seconds from the time the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position and the Negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.
2. REMOVE STARTER.
3. REMOVE KNOCK SENSORS.
(a) Disconnect the knock sensor connector.
(b) Using the special service tool (SST 09816-30010) or equivalent, remove the knock sensor.
4. INSPECT KNOCK SENSORS.
- Using an ohmmeter, check that there is no continuity between the terminal and body.
^ If there is continuity, replace the sensor.
5. REINSTALL KNOCK SENSORS.
(a) Using SST, install the knock sensor.
Torque: 44 Nm (33 ft.lb)
(b) Connect the knock sensor connector.
6. REINSTALL STARTER.
7. RECONNECT NEGATIVE TERMINAL CABLE TO BATTERY.
