Removal Procedures
REMOVAL OF HIGH-TENSION CORDS AND CORD CLAMPS
1. DISCONNECT NEGATIVE TERMINAL CABLE FROM BATTERY.
CAUTION: Work must not be started for at least after 90 seconds from the time the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.
2. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT.
3. DISCONNECT CONTROL CABLES FROM THROTTLE BODY.
- Disconnect the following cables:
(1) Accelerator cable
(2) A/T throttle control cable
(3) Cruise control actuator cable
4. REMOVE INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE.
(a) Disconnect the following hoses:
(1) P/S air hose from air connector pipe
(2) PCV hose from No.2 cylinder head cover
(b) Loosen the 2 hose clamps. and remove the air connector pipe together with the hoses.
5. DISCONNECT THROTTLE BODY BRACKET FROM THROTTLE BODY AND CYLINDER HEAD.
- Remove the 4 nuts, and disconnect the throttle body bracket from the throttle body and cylinder head.
6. REMOVE THROTTLE BODY.
(a) Disconnect the following connectors and hoses from the throttle body:
(1) Throttle position sensor connector
(2) IAC valve connector
(3) 4 vacuum hoses
(4) California vehicles ONLY: Air hose (to intake manifold)
(5) Water bypass hose (from No.2 water bypass pipe)
(b) Remove the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.
(c) Slightly slide the throttle body away from the intake air connector.
(d) Disconnect the water bypass hose (to the water outlet) from the throttle body.
(e) Remove the throttle body and gasket.
7. REMOVE NO.3 TIMING BELT COVER.
(a) Remove the oil filler cap.
(b) Using a 5 mm hexagon wrench, remove the 6 bolts and timing belt cover.
8. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD REAR COVER.
- Using a 5 mm hexagon wrench, remove the 4 bolts and rear cover.
9. REMOVE HIGH-TENSION CORDS AND CORD CLAMPS ASSEMBLY.
(a) Disconnect the 2 high-tension cord clamps from the claws of the No.3 cylinder head cover.
(b) Remove the bolt holding the high-tension cord clamp to No.2 cylinder head cover.
(c) Disconnect the high-tension cords from the distributor and ignition coil.
- Using a screwdriver, lift up the lock claw and disconnect the holder from the distributor (ignition coil).
- Disconnect the high-tension cord at the grommet.
DO NOT pull on the cord.
- Pulling on or bending the cords may damage the conductor inside.
(d) Disconnect the high-tension cords from the spark plugs.
- Disconnect the high - tension cords at the rubber boot.
DO NOT pull on the cords.
(e) Remove the 7 high-tension cords and 8 cord clamps assembly.
10. REMOVE CORD CLAMPS FROM HIGH-TENSION CORDS.
