Installation Procedures
INSTALLATION OF HIGH-TENSION CORDS AND CORD CLAMPS
1. INSTALL HIGH-TENSION CORDS.
- Connect the high-tension cords to the spark plugs.
- Face the cord of the high-tension cord as shown in the illustration.
- Fit the high-tension cord by pushing the center and its outer ring.
- Connect the high-tension cords to the distributor and ignition coil.
- Align the spline of the distributor (ignition coil) with the spline groove of the holder.
- Push in the holder together with the grommet until the claw of the holder locks securely.
NOTE: Check that holder is correctly installed to the grommet and distributor (ignition coil) as shown in the illustration.
- Check that the lock claw of the holder is engaged by lightly pulling the holder.
Ignition Cable Numbers Are Shown In Their Proper Positions In The Clamps:
- Secure the high-tension cords with the 8 cord clamps as shown in the illustration.
2. INSTALL CYLINDER HEAD REAR COVER.
- Using a 5 mm hexagon wrench, install the rear cover with the 4 bolts.
3. INSTALL NO.3 TIMING BELT COVER.
- Using a 5 mm hexagon wrench, install the timing belt cover with the 6 bolts.
- Install the oil filler cap.
4. INSTALL THROTTLE BODY.
- Install a new gasket to the intake air connector.
- Slide the throttle body onto the stud bolts on the intake air connector.
- Connect the water bypass hose (from the water outlet) to the throttle body.
- Install the throttle body with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.
Torque: 21 Nm (15 ft.lb)
- Connect the following connectors and hoses:
(1) Throttle position sensor connector
(2) IAC valve connector
(3) 4 vacuum hoses
(4) California vehicles ONLY: Air hose (from intake manifold)
(5) Water bypass hose (from No.2 water bypass pipe)
5. INSTALL THROTTLE BODY BRACKET .
- Install the throttle body bracket with the 4 nuts.
Torque: 21 Nm (15 ft.lb)
6. INSTALL INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE.
- Install the air connector pipe with the 2 hose clamps.
- Connect the following hoses:
(1) P/S air hose to air connector pipe
(2) PCV hose to No.2 cylinder head cover
7. CONNECT CONTROL CABLES TO THROTTLE BODY.
- Connect the following cables:
(1) Accelerator cable
(2) A/T throttle control cable
(3) Cruise control actuator cable
8. FILL WITH ENGINE COOLANT.
9. CONNECT NEGATIVE TERMINAL CABLE TO BATTERY.
