Fuel Injector: Testing and Inspection
CAUTION: Keep injector clear of sparks during the test.Lines At Fuel Filter:
Inspect Injector Operation
- Disconnect the fuel hose from the fuel filter outlet.
- Connect the union and hose to the fuel filter outlet.
HINT: Use the vehicle's fuel filter.
Line Connection:
- Remove the fuel pressure regulator.
- Connect the fuel return hose and hose to the pressure regulator with union, new gaskets and union bolt.
Injector Connection:
- Connect union and hose to the injector, and hold the injector and union with clamp.
- Put the injector into a graduated cylinder.
HINT: Install a suitable vinyl tube on the injector to prevent gasoline from splashing out.
- Reconnect the battery negative (-) cable.
- Turn the ignition switch ON.
NOTICE: Do not start the engine.
Jumper Installation:
- Using a jumper wire, connect terminals +B and FP of the data link connector 1.
Checking Injector Operation:
- Connect wire to the injector and battery for 15 seconds and measure the injection volume with the graduated cylinder. Test each injector two or three times.
Volume:
34 - 44 cc (2.1 - 2.7 Cu in.)/15 sec.
Difference between each injector:
5 cc (0.3 Cu in.) or less
- If the injection volume is not as specified, replace the injector.
Inspect Leakage
- In the condition above, disconnect test probes of wire from the battery and check for fuel leakage from the injector.
Fuel drop:
One drop or less per 3 minutes
- Disconnect the battery negative (-) cable.
