Catalytic Converter: Testing and Inspection

If exhaust system back-pressure and/or exhaust emission levels are excessive, remove the catalytic converter from the car and make a visual check for plugged, melted or cracked ceramic grid inside. If any of the visible areas are damaged, replace the catalytic converter. Inspect supplemental three-way catalytic converter in the same manner.
