Removal and Installation

1. Disarm airbag system as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Remove battery.
3. Remove air cleaner assembly.
4. Remove throttle cable from engine.
5. On models equipped with cruise control, remove cruise control actuator cover, then disconnect actuator electrical connector.
6. On all models, remove ground terminal.
7. Disconnect No. 1 and 2 speed sensor electrical connectors.
8. Disconnect starter electrical connector and attaching nut, then remove starter attaching bolts and remove starter.
9. Disconnect neutral start switch electrical connector.
10. Disconnect oil cooler hose.
11. Disconnect shift control cable.
12. Remove two front engine mount attaching bolts.
13. Remove two bolts and clamp from front frame assembly.
14. Remove three upper transaxle to engine attaching bolts.
15. Install suitable engine support equipment.
16. Using suitable cord, tie steering gear housing to engine support equipment.
17. Raise and support vehicle.
18. Remove front wheel and tire assemblies.
19. Remove exhaust pipe.
20. Remove differential fluid drain plug and gasket, and drain differential fluid into suitable container.
21. Remove right and left engine side cover No. 2.
22. Remove front engine undercover No. 1 and 2.
23. Remove driveshaft.
24. Remove rear engine mount three attaching nuts.
25. Remove four transaxle mount attaching bolts.
26. Remove stabilizer bar bracket four attaching bolts, then disconnect bar from frame.
27. Remove steering gear housing attaching nuts and bolts, then remove steering gear housing.
28. Using suitable jack stand, support front frame assembly, remove right and left fender liner attaching screws, remove six bolts and four frame nuts, then lower front frame assembly.
29. Support transaxle assembly using suitable jack stand, then remove stiffener plate.
30. Remove transaxle rear end plate.
31. Turn crankshaft to gain access to torque converter attaching bolts, hold crankshaft pulley with suitable wrench, then remove six torque converter attaching bolts. Remove dark green bolt first.
32. Remove three transaxle to engine attaching bolts, then separate transaxle and engine.
33. Remove transaxle assembly, then remove torque converter from transaxle.
34. Reverse procedure to install.
