TRUNK LATCH ASSEMBLY VALET MODE (REVISED)
The Trunk Latch Mechanisms on 1992 Camrys may unintentionally go into the valet mode when the vehicle is driven over a bumpy road or if the trunk lid is slammed repeatedly.
This condition has been corrected by modifying the shape of the luggage compartment door lock link (between the lock assembly and the trunk latch mechanism). The following procedure can be used to modify the shape of the luggage compartment door lock link on vehicles built prior to the production change:
1. Remove luggage compartment door lock link
(P/N 64617-33010) from rear trunk lid.
Measure and record length (A) of link (from trunk lock to lock cylinder) as shown in Figure 1.
2. Modify luggage compartment door lock link. The first bend (counter clockwise) should tighten the angle at the elbow (see Figure 2).
3. The second bend (clockwise) should restore latch end of link to proper angle (see Figure 3).
After completing step 3, total link length (B) should be 3 mm shorter than that measured in step 1.
4. Reinstall modified luggage compartment door lock link making certain that the link is snapped into plastic retainer/guide (see figure 4).
5. Activate trunk lock cylinder and verify that sufficient free-play now exists at link to prevent unintentional activation of valet mode.
