Removal and Installation

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. On 1990-92 models, remove air duct.
3. On 1989 models, disconnect neutral safety switch electrical connector and wire harness clamp.
4. On all models, disconnect speedometer cable, then remove throttle cable from throttle link.
5. On 1990-92 models, remove upper side mounting bolts.
6. On all models, disconnect starter cable and electrical connector, then the starter attaching bolts and starter.
7. On 1989 models, remove upper side attaching bolts.
8. On all models, raise and support vehicle.
9. Drain transmission fluid, then the differential fluid.
10. On 1989 models, disconnect oil cooler hose from pipe.
11. On all models, remove engine undercover.
12. Remove clip from control cable, then disconnect control cable from lever.
13. On 1989 models, remove driveshaft.
14. On 1990-92 models, disconnect driveshafts, then suspend using suitable wire or cord.
15. On 1990-92 models, disconnect oil cooler hose from pipe.
16. On 1990-92 models, remove exhaust pipe to engine attaching bolts, disconnect oxygen sensor electrical connector, then remove rear exhaust pipe attaching bolts, then remove.
17. On 1990-92 models, disconnect neutral start switch electrical connector.
18. On all models, remove six torque converter attaching bolts. Rotate crankshaft to gain access to each bolt.
19. Disconnect bond cable from LH engine mounting bracket, then remove LH mounting attaching bolts and LH mount.
20. Support engine and transaxle with two suitable jacks, then remove four support bolts and disconnect rear mount bracket from body. Remove three bolts and engine rear mounting bracket.
21. Remove transaxle mount bolts, then separate torque converter from transaxle.
22. Reverse procedure to install.
