1991 MR2 A/C COMPRESSOR SHAFT SEAL





Two different types of A/C Compressor Shaft Seals are used on 1991 MR2 A/C compressors (type 10P13).


PART NUMBER INFORMATION:

These shaft seals are not interchangeable.

IDENTIFICATION METHOD:

When replacing a shaft seal, use the production date code on the back of the compressor cylinder to identify the type of shaft seal on the compressor.

May 1990 or Earlier 5K or Earlier Mechanical Seal (P/N 88360-40010)

June 1990 or Later 6K or Later Lip Seal (P/N 88360-30290)


SERVICE PROCEDURES FOR LIP SEAL TYPE SHAFT SEAL:

The following SST should be used for this procedure:

07114-84010 Snap Ring Pliers

07112-85070 Lip Seal Remover

*07112-85050 Lip Seal Protector

*07112-85060 Lip Seal Pressor*

*These are new SST tools for the lip seal of 10P13 compressor.

REMOVAL OF LIP TYPE SHAFT SEAL


1. Use the Snap Ring Pliers (SST 07114-84010) to remove the snap ring (Figure 1).

2. Remove the Lip Seal


a) Set the Lip Seal Remover (SST 07112-85070) on the shaft seal (Figure 2).

b) Turn the Lip Seal Remover until the projection on it is aligned with the indentation of the lip seal (Figure 3).

c) When the Lip Seal Remover is aligned, it will drop slightly (Figure 4).

d) Turn the Lip Seal Remover an additional 30~ and pull up to remove the lip seal (Figure 5).

CAUTION: DO NOT REUSE THE REMOVED LIP SEAL.

1. Set the Lip Seal Protector (SST 07112-85050) on the shaft to protect the lip seal (Figure 6).

2. Install the lip seal (Figure 7).

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE FRONT SURFACE IS FACING UP DURING INSERTION.

3. Press in the lip seal using the Lip Seal Pressor (SST 07112-85060) (Figure 8 and Figure 9).

CAUTION: DO NOT USE A HAMMER TO PRESS ON THE LIP SEAL.

4. Using the Snap Ring Pliers (SST 07114-84010) install the snap ring (Figure 10).
