Steering Wheel: Service and Repair
1. On models with airbag, disable airbag system as described under Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming.2. On models less airbag, disconnect battery ground cable.
3. On models equipped with air bag, remove wheel pad from steering wheel by loosening screws behind wheel pad using a Torx 30 wrench. Disconnect airbag connector. When removing wheel pad, take care not to pull airbag wire harness. When storing wheel pad, keep upper surface of the pad facing upward. Never disassemble wheel pad.
4. On all models, remove steering wheel pad. On models with 4 spoke wheel, remove trim cover from center of steering wheel.
5. Place alignment marks on steering wheel and mainshaft for assembly reference.
6. Remove nut attaching steering wheel to steering shaft.
7. Using steering wheel puller 09213-31021, or equivalent, remove steering wheel. On some models, a steering wheel puller may not be necessary.
8. Reverse procedure to install. Torque steering wheel retaining nut to 26 ft. lbs.
