If exhaust system back-pressure and/or exhaust emission levels are excessive, remove the catalytic converter from the car and make a visual check for plugged, melted or cracked ceramic grid inside. If any of the visible areas are damaged, replace the catalytic converter.

Three-way Catalytic Converter:

Inspect secondary three-way catalytic converter in the same manner, on California vehicles equipped with secondary TWC.
