Fig. 9b Fuel Tank Cap Gasket:
The fuel tank cap gasket should be replaced every 60,000 miles or 72 months, whichever comes first.
Replacement:
1. Remove the old gasket (O-ring) from the tank cap. Do not damage the cap.
2. Install the new gasket by hand.
3. Inspect the cap for cracks or damage.
4. Install the cap and check the torque limiter.
Visually inspect fuel lines for cracks, leakage, loose connections, deformation or fuel tank band looseness every 30,000 miles or 36 months. Repair or replace as necessary.
Fig. 76 Cleaning Charcoal Canister:
Inspect charcoal canister and vapor lines every 60,000 miles or 72 months. Clean or replace canister as necessary.
Canister Cleaning Procedure:
1. Disconnect the hoses to the charcoal canister. Label the hoses for correct reinstallation.
2. Plug pipe (C) with your finger and blow compressed air (43 PSI), through pipe (B) from fuel tank.
3. Check that air comes out of the bottom pipe (A) without resistance.
4. Check that no activated charcoal comes out. If necessary, replace the charcoal canister.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO WASH THE CHARCOAL.
5. Reconnect the hoses to the charcoal canister.
EXHAUST PIPES AND MOUNTINGS
Visually inspect the pipes, hangers and connectors for severe corrosion, leaks or damage every 30,000 miles or 36 months, whichever comes first.
AIR FILTER
Inspect and clean air filter every 5,000 miles or 6 months, if operating in a dusty environment. Otherwise, replace element every 30,000 miles or 36 months, whichever comes first.
SPARK PLUGS
Replace the spark plugs every 30,000 miles or 36 months, whichever comes first. Adjust the electrode gap to 0.8 mm (0.031 in.) before installation.
