Recall - Radio Short Circuit Renotification: Overview

SUBJECT:
RENOTIFICATION OF SPECIAL SERVICE CAMPAIGN - P03 (1991 CAMRY AND PREVIA RADIOS)

Due to the low completion rate of Special Service Campaign P03, Toyota has determined to renotify owners of non-completed vehicles involved in the above campaign.

You are requested, using the following information, to repair and, if necessary, replace the subject radio on the non-completed vehicles which contain components that can cause a short circuit within the radio. In rare cases, this could lead to a small fire.

Note:
At the request of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, please perform the necessary campaign inspection/repair on any vehicles acquired in your inventory prior to resale of the vehicle. In addition, you will be sent SSC notifications with your dealer's name and address for non-completed vehicles which, according to our record, you have in stock. If any vehicles in your inventory involved in this campaign have been released to a customer prior to receipt of this notification, please contact this known customer and perform the necessary repair.

2. Identification of Involved Vehicles

NOTE:
Although the involved vehicles are within the above VIN ranges, not all vehicles in these ranges were imported into the United States and not all were equipped with the subject radios.

Please refer to the enclosed special service campaign dealer/owner list (PO3).The list contains the vehicle identification number and the most recently available vehicle owner's name and address (except in California) for each non-completed vehicle involved in this campaign in your Primary Market Area; where available a telephone number has been included. Please use this to contact the vehicle owners and perform the necessary repair.

3. Repair Procedures

Please refer to the Technical Instructions and the video tape issued with the original SSC PO3 notification.

4. Parts Ordering

Any order of the chemicals (PC cleaner, 08834-00801; air injector, 08834-00802; TF-1141H coating, 08833-00802; and grease, 08887-80309) must be placed via a telephone call to the Technical Compliance Department at (310)783-5596. The orders will be processed on the day of the order.

Any order of the improved heat sink (F1921-32020) and the coating applicator (08833-00803) must be placed through your facing Parts Distribution Center. Your stocking parts order of the improved heat sink and the coating applicator should not exceed 10% of the number of the vehicles indicated on the enclosed special service campaign dealer/owner list (SSC P03).

For the exchange radio, follow the Toyota Radio Chassis Exchange Program procedures in your Warranty Policy and Procedures Manual.

5. Reimbursement Procedures

Submit Special Service Campaign claims following the procedures described in the Toyota Warranty Policy & Procedures Manual.





The operation codes to be used for this campaign are as shown.

Note:
The above operation codes include 0.1 flat rate hour for administrative expenses.

Please review this entire package with your Service and Parts staff to familiarize them with the proper step-by-step procedure and implement this Special Service Campaign to ensure customer satisfaction.
