Starter Motor: Service and Repair

1. On models with airbag, disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Remove lefthand hood side panel.
3. On models less airbag, disconnect battery ground cable. Remove battery, battery tray and/or igniter bracket, if necessary.
4. On all models, remove air cleaner assembly, if necessary.
5. Disconnect electrical connectors from starter motor.
6. On 1989 models with automatic transmission, remove transmission oil filler tube if necessary.
7. On all models, remove starter motor attaching bolts, heat shield (if equipped), then the starter motor.
8. Reverse procedure to install. Arm airbag system as previously described.
