Alternator: Service and Repair
REMOVAL OF ALTERNATOR1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE TERMINAL OF BATTERY
2. DISCONNECT WIRE FROM ALTERNATOR
(a) Disconnect the connector from the alternator.
(b) Remove the nut and wire from the alternator.
3. REMOVE ALTERNATOR DRIVE BELT
Loosen the alternator pivot nut, bolt and adjusting lock bolts, and remove the drive belt.
4. REMOVE ALTERNATOR
(a) Remove the pivot nut, bolt and adjusting lock bolts.
(b) Remove the alternator.
INSTALLATION OF ALTERNATOR
1. INSTALL ALTERNATOR
(a) Mount the alternator on the alternator brackets with the pivot bolt and adjusting lock bolt. Do not tighten the bolts yet.
(b) Connect the alternator connector.
(c) Connect the alternator wire with the nut.
2. INSTALL DRIVE BELT
Adjust the drive belt tension.
Drive belt tension:
New belt: 120 ± 20 lbf
Used belt: 104 ± 20 lbf
3. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE TERMINAL OF BATTERY
