EGR Control Solenoid: Testing and Inspection
Fig. 36 Testing VSV For Short Circuit:
Fig. 37 Testing VSV For Open Circuit:
1. Disconnect electrical connector and vacuum hoses from the vacuum modulator. Remove the vacuum modulator from the engine.
2. Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between the terminals and the housing body. Fig. 36
3. If there is any continuity, replace the VSV.
4. Using an ohmmeter, check the resistance between the terminals, Fig. 37. The resistance should be 33 - 39 Ohms at 68°F ambient temperature.
5. If not as specified, replace the VSV.
Fig. 34 Testing VSV With Current Applied:
Fig. 35 Testing VSV With Current Disconnected:
6. Apply battery voltage across terminals.
7. Check VSV operation by blowing air from pipe E to pipe F, Fig. 34. If air does NOT flow, replace the VSV.
8. Disconnect the battery from the VSV.
9. Check that air flows from pipe E through the filter. Fig. 35
10. If not as specified, replace the VSV.
11. Reinstall the VSV. Reconnect electrical connector and vacuum hoses.
