FEDERAL AND CANADIAN MODELS

1. Visually inspect hoses and tubes for cracks, kinks, damage or loose connections.
2. Remove the air cleaner top.
3. Start the engine and at idle speed, check that a "gurgling" sound is coming from the AS reed valve inlet. Fig. 54
4. If no sound is heard, check the AS reed valve.
5. Reinstall the air cleaner top.

CALIFORNIA MODELS

1. Remove the air cleaner top.
2. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the AS reed valve shut-off and plug the hose. Fig. 55
3. Start the engine and maintain at idle speed.
4. Unplug the vacuum hose and reconnect to the shut-off valve.
5. A "gurgling" sound should be heard from the AS reed valve inlet within 2 - 6 seconds. If no sound is heard, check the AS reed valve.
6. Reinstall the air cleaner top.
