TO: ALL TOYOTA DEALERS AND SERVICE MANAGERS

SUBJECT: SPECIAL SERVICE CAMPAIGN - K02

Toyota will initiate a special service campaign to replace the radiator and coolant expansion reservoir in certain 1988 and 1989 Celica All-Trac Turbos.

When a turbo charged engine is turned off immediately after high speed or heavy load operation, high temperature may cause a small amount of the engine coolant to overflow the expansion reservoir. Repeated loss of coolant in this manner may possibly result in subsequent engine overheating.

The improved reservoir is designed to prevent this coolant loss; however, it remains important for other reasons that owners continue to observe the "precautions for turning off a turbo engine (3S-GTE engine)" printed in their owner's manual.

You are requested, using the following information, to replace the radiator and coolant expansion reservoir on the vehicles involved in this campaign, including all vehicles currently in your stock.

Note: You will be sent SSC notifications with your dealer's name and address for vehicles which, according to our record you have in stock. If any vehicles in your stock involved in this campaign have been sold to an ultimate customer prior to receipt of this notification, please contact this known customer and perform the necessary repairs.

1. Owner notification latter mailing date

July 28, 1989

2. Vehicles involved
Note: Although the involved vehicles are within the above VIN ranges, not all vehicles in these ranges were imported to the United States.
The enclosed special service campaign dealer/owner list (SSC K02) indicates each customer's name, address and vehicle identification number that are involved in this campaign in your area. You may also utilize this valuable list for your future follow-up system.

3. Repair procedures

Refer to the attached Technical Instructions.

4. Parts ordering

As with all campaigns, necessary parts must be ordered from your facing Parts Distribution Center.

In order to avoid excessive parts orders and maintain adequate parts inventory, it is highly recommended that your initial parts order does not exceed 10% of the number of the vehicles indicated on the enclosed special service campaign dealer/owner list (SSC K02) .

5. Reimbursement procedures

Submit special service campaign claims following the procedures described in the Toyota Warranty Policy & Procedures Manual. The operation code to be used for this campaign is listed below.
Note: The above operation code includes 0.1 flat rate hour for administrative expenses.

Please review this entire package with your Service and Parts staff to familiarize them with the proper step-by-step procedure and implement this special service campaign to ensure customer satisfaction.
IMPORTANT

Some vehicles that require this modification are still in transit from Japan. As a result it is essential that you check any future arrivals of Celica All-Trac Turbos at your dealership to see if they are within the effected VIN range.
