Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Testing and Inspection

Fig. 9 Checking Charcoal Canister For Air Flow:

1. Remove charcoal canister.
2. Visually inspect housing for cracks or damage.
3. Using low pressure compressed air, blow into inlet pipe from fuel tank and check that air flows through other pipes without resistance. Fig. 9
4. Check the canister check valve by blowing air into the purge pipe inlet. Air should NOT flow through other pipes.
5. If a problem is found, replace charcoal canister.
6. If canister cleaning is required, refer to Charcoal Canister Cleaning under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES.
7. Reinstall canister on vehicle.
