Assembly Method
1. INSTALL NEW CENTER REGISTER
(a) Install the new center register by three screws.
(b) Install the screw of the No. 3 heater to register duct.
2. INSTALL SAFETY PAD
(a) Lift the safety pad lightly to place the reinforcement.
(b) Connect the connector of A/C temperature sensor (w/ auto A/C only).
(c) Insert the air inlet damper control cable to clamp which is located near the glovebox lamp (ST only).
(d) Attach wire harness by passing right side wires behind dash pad braces No. 1 and No. 2, and replace 3 screws.
(e) When installing the safety pad, push downward at an angle as shown in the illustration.
Note: To eliminate clearance between the lower windshield molding and the safety pad, push the safety pad strongly.
(f) Tighten the four bolts, two screws and two nuts.
Note: Tighten the screws first to prevent the safety pad from tilting.
3. INSTALL RH FRONT "A" PILLAR GARNISH
Align the garnish with the safety pad top surface and then push it to the pillar by hand.
4. CONNECT INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE HARNESS (LEFT SIDE)
(a) Connect the three connectors to the No. 1 junction block.
(b) Insert the resin clip of wire harness to the reinforcement.
5. INSTALL COWL SIDE TRIM
(a) Insert the lower portion of trim under the scuff plate.
(b) Tighten the screw and install the resin clip.
6. INSTALL HEATER CONTROL PANEL INSTALLING SCREW AND NO. 1
INSTRUMENT PANEL RETAINER INSTALLING SCREW
Tighten the four screws for installing panel and two screws for installing retainer.
Note: Tighten these screws in the order shown in the illustration. Before tightening these screws, first set the panel by hand.
7. INSTALL REAR NO. 1 AIR DUCT
Push the duct forward by hand.
Note: When installing this duct, lift the connectors and antenna cable for radio (stereo).
8. INSTALL RADIO AND STEREO
(a) Connect the connectors and radio antenna cable.
(b) Install the radio and stereo.
(c) Tighten the four screws.
Note: Turbo All-Trac radio has two antenna cables.
9. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH LOWER CENTER PANEL
IMPORTANT
(a) Cover the shift position upper housing with a clean shop rag.
(b) Connect the connectors and install the panel.
(c) Tighten the six or eight screws.
(d) Install the ash tray.
10. INSTALL NO. 1 SPEAKER MOUNTING BRACKET AND GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR REINFORCEMENT AS ASSEMBLY
(a) Connect the connector and install the bracket and reinforcement as assembly.
(b) Tighten the two bolts and screw.
11. INSTALL NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL
(a) Insert the clips.
(b) Tighten the two screws.
12. INSTALL GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR
(a) Install the door and tighten two screws.
13. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX
(a) Connect the connectors and install the console box.
(b) Tighten the eight screws.
(c) Install the console box hole cover.
(d) Install the shift lever knob (M/T only).
14. INSTALL SPEEDOMETER CABLE
(a) Insert the meter bracket of speedometer cable into installation location on the safety pad.
15. INSTALL COMBINATION METER
(a) Connect the three connectors.
(b) Lift the wire harness of reverse side and push the meter straight forward to connect the speedometer cable.
(c) Tighten the four screws.
16. INSTALL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL
(a) Push the panel until it is settled in groove of safety pad.
(b) Tighten the four screws.
17. INSTALL REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER SWITCH AND HAZARD SWITCH
(a) Connect each connector.
(b) Push the switches straight forward by hand.
18. INSTALL NO. 2 HEATER DUCT TO REGISTER DUCT
(a) Install the register duct by inserting into the #2 heater duct.
19. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH LOWER PANEL
(a) Insert the engine hood release lever through the opening of the panel.
(b) Connect the connectors (speaker and instrument panel light control).
(c) Install the panel and tighten the five screws and one bolt.
20. TIGHTEN SCREW OF ENGINE HOOD RELEASE LEVER
(a) Tighten the two screws.
21. INSTALL NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL
(a) Insert the clips.
(b) Tighten the screw.
Note: This screw is gray color.
22. INSTALL LH FRONT "A" PILLAR GARNISH
Install the garnish same as the RH side.
23. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER (w/o Tilt Steering)
(a) Install the column cover and tighten the seven screws.
24. a) Replace steering wheel, aligning the tape marks on the wheel and the upper steering column cover.
b) Tighten the nut to 400kg-cm (29 ft.lbs.)
c) Connect wires at the horn plate and reinstall steering wheel horn pad.
25. CONNECT BATTERY CABLE TO NEGATIVE TERMINAL
Use the following check list to ensure that:
1) All switches/systems function correctly after the repair.
2) The fit of all parts and trim pieces is correct.
