Shift Solenoid: Service and Repair

REMOVAL OF SOLENOID OR VALVE BODY
1. RAISE VEHICLE AND CLEAN TRANSMISSION EXTERIOR
To help prevent contamination, clean the exterior of the transmission.




2. DRAIN TRANSMISSION
Remove the drain plug and drain fluid into a suitable container.

3. REMOVE OIL PAN

CAUTION: Some fluid will remain in the oil pan.




a. Remove the nineteen bolts.




b. Insert the blade of SST between the transmission case and oil pan, cut off applied sealer and then remove the oil pan.

CAUTION: When removing the oil pan, be careful not to damage the oil pan flange.




4. WHEN REPLACING SOLENOID
a. Disconnect the connector from the solenoid.
b. Remove the solenoid mounting bolt.
c. Remove the solenoid.




5. REMOVE OIL STRAINER

CAUTION: Be careful as some fluid will come out with the oil strainer.

Remove the three bolts, oil strainer and gasket.




6. REMOVE THE TWO OIL TUBES
Pry up both tube ends with a large screwdriver and remove the two tubes.




7. DISCONNECT THE THREE CONNECTORS FROM EACH SOLENOID
8. REMOVE VALVE BODY



a. Remove the seventeen bolts.




b. Remove the C(0), C(2) and B(2) accumulator piston springs with C(2) and B(2) piston spacers.




c. Disconnect the throttle cable from the cam.
d. Remove the valve body.

NOTE: Be careful not to drop the check ball body and spring.

INSTALLATION OF VALVE BODY
1. INSTALL VALVE BODY



a. Install the valve body together the check ball body and spring.

NOTE: Align the groove of the manual valve to the pin of the lever.




b. Connect the throttle cable to the cam.




c. Install the C(0), C(2) and B(2) accumulator piston springs with C(2) and B(2) piston spacers.




d. Install the seventeen bolts.

NOTE: Each bolt length mm) is indicated in the figure.

Torque: 100 kg.cm (7 ft.lb, 10 N.m)




2. CONNECT THE THREE CONNECTORS TO EACH SOLENOID




3. INSTALL THE TWO OIL TUBES

CAUTION: Make sure that the oil tubes or the magnet do not interfere with the oil pan.

Install the two tubes by hand as shown.




4. INSTALL OIL STRAINER
a. If necessary, replace the strainer or case gaskets.
b. Install the gaskets and oil strainer and torque the three bolts.

Torque: 100 kg.cm (7 ft.lb, 10 N.m)

c. Clamp the solenoid wire.




5. WHEN REPLACING SOLENOID
a. Install the solenoid and torque the bolt.

Torque: 100 kg.cm (7 ft.lb, 10 N.m)

b. Connect the connector to solenoid.
c. Clamp the solenoid wire.




6. INSTALL PAN
a. Remove any packing material and be careful not to drop the oil on the contacting surfaces of the oil pan and transmission case.
b. Clean contacting surfaces of any residual packing material using gasoline or alcohol.




c. Apply seal packing to the oil pan.
Seal packing: Part No. 08826-00090, THREE BOND 1281 or equivalent.

NOTE: Install oil pan within 10 minutes after applying seal packing.




d. Install the oil pan and torque the nineteen bolts.

Torque: 75 kg.cm (65 in.lb, 7.4 N.m)




7. INSTALL DRAIN PLUG
Torque the drain plug.

Torque: 205 kg.cm (15 ft.lb, 20 N.m)




8. FILL TRANSMISSION WITH ATF

CAUTION: Do not overfill.

Fluid type: ATF DEXRON(R) II

9. CHECK FLUID LEVEL
