Removal and Installation

REMOVAL OF EXTENSION HOUSING
1. RAISE VEHICLE AND POSITION PAN TO CATCH ANY FLUID THAT MAY DRIP
2. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT TOGETHER WITH CENTER BEARING



3. REMOVE EXHAUST FRONT PIPE TOGETHER WITH CONVERTER




4. DISCONNECT SPEEDOMETER CABLE




5. REMOVE SPEEDOMETER DRIVEN GEAR AND SPEED SENSOR




6. JACK UP TRANSMISSION SLIGHTLY
Securely support the transmission on a transmission jack. Lift the transmission slightly to remove weight from the rear support member.




7. REMOVE REAR SUPPORT MEMBER
Remove the ground cable and the eight bolts, and remove the rear support member.




8. REMOVE EXTENSION HOUSING AND GASKET
Remove the six bolts. If necessary, tap the extension housing with a soft-faced hammer or block of wood to loosen it.




9. CLEAN AND INSPECT COMPONENTS
a. Wash components in clean solvent, and dry with corn- pressed air.
b. Check the case, speedometer gear and output shaft for cracks, wear or damage.

INSTALLATION OF EXTENSION HOUSING
1. INSTALL NEW GASKET AND EXTENSION HOUSING ON TRANSMISSION



Install the six bolts finger tight, then torque them.

NOTE: The two lower bolts are shorter.

Torque: 370 kg.cm (27 ft.lb, 36 N.m)




2. INSTALL REAR SUPPORT MEMBER
Install the support member and ground cable.




3. INSTALL SPEEDOMETER DRIVEN GEAR AND SPEED SENSOR
4. CONNECT SPEEDOMETER CABLE
5. INSTALL EXHAUST FRONT PIPE
6. INSTALL PROPELLER SHAFT




7. LOWER VEHICLE AND CHECK FLUID LEVEL
Start the engine, shift the selector into each gear, then check the fluid level with the transmission in P range.

Add fluid as necessary.

CAUTION: Do not overfill.
