1. Remove transaxle release fork, bearing, back-up light switch and speedometer driven gear, then the release bearing retainer, Fig. 13.
2. Remove transmission case cover.
3. Measure 5th gear thrust clearance using a suitable dial indicator. Clearance should be .0039-.0224 inch.
4. Remove selecting bellcrank.
5. Remove shift lever set nut, then drive out lock pin using a suitable drift.
6. Remove control shaft retainer attaching bolts, then the control shaft.
7. Remove lock bolt, then the shift and selector shaft assembly.
8. Engage meshing gears, then remove locknut and disengage meshing gears.
9. Remove No. 3 hub sleeve snap ring using two screwdrivers and a suitable mallet, then remove No. 3 hub sleeve, then the shift fork. Remove 5th gear, No. 3 hub and synchronizer ring.
10. Remove needle roller bearing, then the spacer.
11. Remove 5th driven gear, then the rear bearing retainer.
12. Remove two rear bearing snap rings, then the reverse idler gear shaft lock bolt.
13. Remove No. 2 shift fork snap ring.
14. Remove case plugs, then the three lock balls. Remove four seats and balls using suitable magnetic tool.
15. Remove sixteen attaching bolts, then separate transaxle case.
16. Remove reverse shift arm bracket attaching bolts, then the bracket.
17. Remove reverse idler gear, then the shaft.
18. Remove three shift fork snap rings, then the three set bolts. Remove No. 2 shift fork shaft and shift head, then the two check balls using a suitable magnetic tool. Remove No. 1 shift fork shaft, then the No. 1 and 2 shift forks.
19. Remove input and output shafts as an assembly from transaxle case, then the differential assembly.
