Electronic Control System Diagnosis

CIRCUIT

INSPECTION OF ELECTRIC CONTROL COMPONENTS

1. INSPECT WATER THERMO SWITCH
a. Disconnect the thermo switch connector.
b. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between terminal 1 and body ground.

Coolant temperature:
Below 43 °C (109 °F) 0 Ohm
Above 55 °C (131 °F) infinity Ohms

c. Connect the thermo switch connector.

2. INSPECT OD SOLENOID

a. Disconnect the solenoid connector.
b. Apply voltage between terminals 1 and 2. At this time, confirm that a solenoid operation sound is heard.
c. Using an ohmmeter, measure the solenoid coil resistance between terminals 1 and 2.

Resistance: 13 ± 2 Ohms

d. Connect the solenoid connector.
e. Disconnect the thermo S/W connector and turn on the ignition S/W
f. Confirm that an operation sound of the solenoid can be heard if the main S/W is repeatedly turned on and off.
g. Connect the thermo S/W connector and turn off the ignition S/W.

3. INSPECT OD MAIN SWITCH
a. Remove the console box.
b. Using an ohmmeter, check the continuity of the terminals 1 and 3 for each switch position.
c. Install the console box.

4. INSPECT NEUTRAL START SWITCH
Using an ohmmeter, check the continuity of the terminals for each switch position shown in the table.

If continuity between the terminals is not as specified, replace the switch.
