Timing Belt Removal





REMOVAL OF TIMING BELT

1. Remove RH wheel.
2. Remove RH under cover.
3. Drain coolant.
4. Disconnect radiator inlet hose.
5. Loosen water pump pulley bolts.
6. Remove alternator drive belt.
(a) Loosen the pivot and lock bolts.
(b) Loosen the adjusting bolt and remove the drive belt.





7. Remove alternator.
(a) Remove the terminal cap, nut and wire. Disconnect the wiring connector.
(b) Remove the pivot, lock bolt and alternator.





8. On vehicles with A/C, remove A/C compressor drive belt.
(a) Loosen the idler pulley mount nut.
(b) Loosen the adjusting bolt and remove the drive belt.

9. On vehicles with A/C, remove A/C compressor and bracket.
(a) Remove the four bolts and A/C compressor.
(b) Remove the five bolts and bracket.





10. On vehicles with PS, remove the vane pump drive belt.
(a) Loosen the pivot and lock bolts.
(b) Swing the vane pump toward the engine and remove the drive belt.





11. Disconnect the water pump pulley.
Remove the four bolts and disconnect the water pump pulley from the water pump.





12. Remove No.1 timing belt cover with gasket.
13. Remove No.3 timing belt cover with gasket.





14. Set No.1 cylinder to TDC/Compression.
Turn the crankshaft pulley and align its groove with the "0" mark on the No.2 timing belt.
- Check that the timing marks on the camshaft timing pulley hole and camshaft bearing cap are aligned. If not, turn the crankshaft pulley one complete revolution.

15. Remove crankshaft pulley.





(a) Using SST 09213-14010 and 09330-00021 to hold the crankshaft pulley, loosen the pulley bolt.
(b) Remove the pulley bolt.





(c) Using SST 09213-31021, remove the crankshaft pulley.





16. Remove No.2 timing belt cover and gasket with bolts.
17. Remove timing belt guide.
18. Remove timing belt and idler pulley.





NOTE: If reusing the timing belt, draw a direction arrow on the belt (in direction of engine revolution), and place matchmarks on the pulleys and belt as shown in the figure.





(a) Loosen the idler pulley bolt, push it left as far as it will go and then temporarily tighten it.
(b) Remove the belt.
(c) Remove the idler pulley bolt, pulley and return spring.

19. Remove crankshaft timing pulley.
20. Remove cylinder head cover with gasket.





21. Remove camshaft timing pulley.
Secure the camshaft and remove the camshaft timing pulley bolt.
22. Remove timing belt from engine compartment.





(a) Set the jack to the engine.

NOTE: Place a wooden block between the jack a engine.





(b) Remove two covers and four mounting bolts.





(c) Remove the engine mounting through bolt.





(d) Raise up the engine and pull out the timing belt.
