Engine - Bearing Cap Redesign Reduces Vibration

TITLE ENGINE OIL PAN ON S SERIES ENGINES



To reduce possible engine related vibration on S series engines, the No. 5 engine bearing cap has been redesigned. To accommodate this modification, the rear oil seal retainer and oil pan have also been redesigned.

PROCEDURE FOR VEHICLES PRODUCED BEFORE JULY 1986

1. When reusing the original oil seal retainer and oil pan on vehicles produced before July 1986 assembly, procedures remain unchanged.

2. When replacing the rear oil seal retainer (P/N 11381-63011), a new oil pan must also be used (P/N 12101-63021, 2S-E or P/N 12101-74021 3S-FE, 3S-GE).

3. When replacing only the oil pan, a new oil seal retainer is not necessary, but the following installation procedure must be followed.



^ Remove and discard the two studs from the oil seal retainer (see illustration).



^ Apply FIPG to the oil pan (see illustration).
