Windshield - Defroster Performance Improvement

To improve the front windshield defroster performance in very low ambient temperatures, an air deflector plate has been added to the inlet opening of the defroster nozzle.

Note: * New part is interchangeable with previous parts; however, the plate should be used for field fix purposes to avoid dash pad removal.
All 1987 model Camry windshield defrosters, prior to February 1987 production change can be modified by adding a plate (P/N 55957-32010) to the inlet opening of the defroster nozzle.



Modification Procedures:

1. Remove lower finish panel

(a) Remove the two screws and the engine hood release lever.



(b) Using a screwdriver, pry out the switch bases and the no. 1 speaker panel.



(c) Disconnect the wire harness connectors.

(d) Remove the seven bolts and lower finish panel.



2. Remove steering column cover.

Remove the four screws, the two bolts and the cover.



3. Remove the cluster finish panel.

(a) Remove the five screws and the panel

(b) Disconnect the wire harness connectors.



4. Remove combination meter.

(a) Remove the four screws

(b) Remove the connectors and the meter.



(c) Push on the pawls of speedometer cable bracket and position cable head to the left.




5. Insert a rectifier plate (P/N 55957-32010) between defroster nozzle and sealing packing of heater duct.
6. Align the inserted plate with heater duct and apply sealing tape (duct tape) to indicated area.


7. Reinstall the cluster finish panel and combination meter.
