Dashboard / Instrument Panel: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect cable from negative terminal of the battery.
2. Remove steering wheel.
3. Remove steering column cover.
4. Remove console assemble.
a. Remove the shift knob lever knob.
b. Remove the ashtray.
c. Remove the heater control retainer.
d. Remove the six set screws, disconnect the two connectors, and remove the console upper panel.
e. Remove the eight screws, disconnect the four connectors, and remove the console assembly.
5. Remove hood release lever bracket.
6. Remove driver side speaker panel. Pry loose the panel with a screwdriver and remove it.
7. Remove three screws, two clamps and the driver side under cover.
8. Remove six screws, disconnect the four connectors and remove the driver side finish lower panel.
9. Remove the instrument cluster finish panel after removing five screws and disconnecting the connectors.
10. Remove combination meter.
a. Remove the four screws.
b. Disconnect the connectors and speedometer cable.
c. Remove the combination meter.
11. Remove passenger side cowl side trim panel board.
a. Remove the scuff plate.
b. Remove the four screws and cowl side trim board.
12. Remove three screws and the passenger side instrument panel under cover.
13. Remove passenger side speaker cover.
14. Remove passenger side finish lower panel assembly.
a. Remove the glove compartment door check arm and compartment door.
b. Remove the door lock striker.
c. Remove the lower finish panel.
d. Disconnect the two connectors.
NOTE: If necessary, remove the speaker.
15. Remove the Electronic Control Unit (ECU).
a. Disconnect the three connectors.
b. Remove the three screws and the ECU.
16. Remove the two screws and the heater control unit.
NOTE: Do not disconnect the heater control cable.
17. Remove the front pillar garnish by prying loose the clips with a screwdriver, and pulling the garnish upward to remove it.
18. Remove the defroster nozzle garnish using a screwdriver, pry between the defroster nozzle garnish and safety pad.
CAUTION: Be careful not to scratch the safety pad.
19. Remove safety pad.
a. Remove the seven screws and one bolt.
b. Disconnect the four connectors.
c. Remove the safety pad.
d. Remove the left and right side defroster ducts.
NOTE: If needed remove the following registers.
e. Remove the instrument panel center register from the safety pad.
f. Remove the left and right instrument panel side registers from the safety pad.
g. Remove the side defroster retainer and defroster nozzle.
For installation install parts of safety pad in reverse sequence of removal.
