Cylinder Head Assembly: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain cooling system, then disconnect accelerator cable from throttle body.
3. On automatic transmission models, remove throttle cable and bracket assembly from throttle body.
4. Remove air cleaner assembly from engine.
5. Mark then disconnect all EFI electrical connectors, electrical wiring and vacuum hoses for cylinder head.
6. Pull out EFI wire harness from right fender apron.
7. Remove alternator and distributor from engine.
8. Disconnect radiator upper hose and bypass hose, then remove water outlet housing.
9. Remove rear end housing and heater pipe.
10. Disconnect and plug fuel lines.
11. Raise and support vehicle, then drain oil from engine and disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
12. Disconnect two power steering pump vacuum lines, then remove intake manifold bracket.
13. Lower vehicle.
14. Remove timing belt. Refer to ``Timing Belt, Replace'' for procedure.
15. Disconnect vacuum hose from PCV valve, them remove cylinder head cover.

16. Loosen then remove camshaft housing bolts and nuts gradually in three steps in sequence shown in Fig. 10.
17. Remove rocker arms and valve lash adjusters.

18. Loosen then remove cylinder head bolts gradually in three steps in sequence shown in Fig. 11.

19. Reverse procedure to install.
- Torque cylinder head bolts gradually in three steps in sequence shown in Fig. 12 to 47 ft. lbs.
- Torque camshaft housing bolts and nuts in three steps in sequence shown in Fig. 13 to 11 ft. lbs.
