1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove steering wheel and steering column cover, Figs. 17.
3. Remove console assembly as follows:
a. Remove shift lever knob, if equipped.
b. Remove ashtray.
c. Remove heater control retainer assembly.
d. Remove upper console panel attaching screws, then the upper console panel.
e. Remove console assembly attaching screws, then the console assembly.
4. Remove hood release lever bracket.
5. Remove left side speaker panel and lower finish panel.
6. On Supra models, remove left side under cover attaching screws, then the under cover.
7. On all models, remove instrument cluster finish panel attaching screws, then the cluster finish panel.
8. Disconnect speedometer cable and electrical connectors from instrument cluster.
9. Remove instrument cluster attaching screws, then the instrument cluster.
10. Remove right side cowl trim board.
11. On Supra models, remove right side instrument panel under cover attaching screws, then the instrument panel under cover.
12. On all models, remove right side lower finish panel as follows:
a. Remove glove compartment door assembly.
b. Remove right side lower finish panel attaching screws, then the panel.
c. Disconnect electrical connectors from glove compartment.
d. Remove right side speaker, if necessary.
13. Disconnect electrical connectors from ECU.
14. Remove ECU attaching screws, then the ECU.
15. Remove heater control assembly. Do not disconnect heater control cable.
16. Remove front pillar garnish assembly.
17. Remove defroster duct(s).
18. Remove instrument panel assembly as follows:
a. Remove eight instrument panel attaching screws.
b. Disconnect four electrical connectors from instrument panel.
c. Remove instrument panel.
19. Reverse procedure to install.
