2UZ-FE STARTING: STARTER: REMOVAL

REMOVAL

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
NOTE: When disconnection the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Repair Instruction - Initialization.

2. REMOVE AIR PUMP ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1)
(a) Remove the air pump assembly Removal.
3. REMOVE AIR TUBE






(a) Loosen the clip and separate the No. 2 air hose.
(b) Remove the 3 bolts and remove the air tube.
(c) Remove the gasket from the air tube.
4. REMOVE REAR WATER BY-PASS JOINT






(a) Remove the 4 nuts and remove the rear water by-pass joint.






(b) Remove the 2 gaskets from the cylinder head.
5. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY






(a) Remove the 2 bolts holding the starter to the cylinder block.
(b) Disconnect the starter from the cylinder block.






(c) Remove the bolt and disconnect the engine wire protector from the starter assembly.
(d) Remove the bolt and ground wire.
(e) Disconnect the starter assembly connector.
(f) Remove the nut and disconnect the starter assembly wire.
(g) Remove the starter assembly.
