PRE-DELIVERY SERVICE
PD013-03
REVISED

Title:
INITIAL CALIBRATION OF COMPASS

Models:
'04 - '06 Tundra

TSB REVISION NOTICE:

^ August 4, 2005: 2005 - 2006 model years have been added to Applicable Vehicles. The previous TSB should be discarded.

Introduction

The compass indicates the direction that the vehicle is heading by detecting the direction and strength of the Earth's magnetic field and processing this data using the compass sensor and microcomputer.

Detection of the direction and strength of the Earth's magnetic field varies according to the area in which the vehicle is used and is affected by the residual magnetism of the vehicle. For this reason, the geographic direction displayed may also deviate from the direction determined by the Earth's magnetic field according to the area in which the vehicle is used.

Perform the initial calibration of the compass at the dealership prior to delivery to customers.

Applicable Vehicles
^ 2004 - 2006 model year Tundra vehicles.

Initial Calibration Procedure

1. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.

2. Push the "MODE" button several times until the outside temperature and compass direction (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW) appear on the display.

3. Push and hold the "MODE" and "E/M" buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds until the "VAR" indication appears on the compass display. Then, a zone number (1 - 15) will appear on the compass display.

4. Push the "E/M" button to select the number of the zone where the vehicle is located.

See the map for zone reference.

5. Leave the system alone for 10 seconds.

The display returns to the compass/outside temperature mode and the number that was set last is saved in memory.

6. Start the engine. Then, push the "MODE" button several times until the outside temperature and compass direction appear on the display.

7. Push and hold the "MODE" and "E/M" buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds until the "CAL" indication appears on the compass display. At this time, the compass display is locked in "N".

8. Drive the vehicle slowly at 5 mph (8 km/h) or less in a circle until the "CAL" indication goes off and the direction is displayed. If there is not enough space to drive in a circle, drive around the block until the direction is displayed.

NOTE:
Do not perform calibration of the compass in a place where the Earth's magnetic field is subject to interference by artificial magnetic fields (underground parking, under a steel tower, between buildings, roof parking, near a crossing, near a large vehicle, etc.)

^ During calibration, do not operate electric systems (moon roof, power windows, etc.) as they may interfere with the calibration.
