Horn Button Assembly Replacement
Horn Button Assy:
REPLACEMENT
1. PRECAUTION
Refer to Air Bag Systems; Service Precautions.
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
Wait for at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent the air bag from working.
3. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO.2
a. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped in protective tape, disengage the 2 claws and remove the steering wheel cover lower No.2.
4. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO.3
a. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped in protective tape, disengage the 2 claws and remove the steering wheel cover lower No.3.
5. REMOVE HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY
a. Using a torx(R) socket wrench (T30), loosen the 2 torx(R) screws until the groove along the screw circumference fits in the screw case.
b. Pull the horn button assembly out of the steering wheel assembly and support the horn button assembly with one hand, as shown in the illustration.
NOTE: When removing the horn button assembly, take care not to pull the airbag wire harness.
c. Disconnect the horn ground harness from the horn button assembly.
d. Using a screwdriver, disconnect the airbag connectors.
e. Remove the horn button assembly.
CAUTION:
- When placing the horn button assembly, keep the upper surface of the horn button assembly facing upward.
- Never disassemble the horn button assembly.
6. INSTALL HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY
NOTE:
- Never use airbag parts from a different vehicle. When replacing parts, replace them with new ones.
- Make sure the wheel pad is installed to the specified torque.
- If the wheel pad has been dropped, or there are cracks, dents or other defects in the case or connector, replace the wheel pad with a new one.
- When installing the wheel pad, take care that the wiring does not interfere with other parts and is not pinched between other parts.
a. Support the horn button assembly with one hand, as shown in the illustration.
b. Connect the 2 airbag connectors.
c. Connect the horn ground harness to the horn button assembly.
d. Confirm that the circumference groove of the torx(R) screws fits in the screw case, and install the horn button assembly.
e. Using a torx(R) socket wrench (T30), install the 2 screws.
Torque: 8.8 N.m (90 kgf.cm, 78 in.lbf)
7. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO.3
a. Engage the 2 claws, install the steering wheel cover No.3 to the steering wheel assembly.
8. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO.2
a. Engage the 2 claws, install the steering wheel cover No.2 to the steering wheel assembly.
9. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
Torque: 3.9 N.m (40 kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf)
10. INSPECT HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY
11. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT
