- September 16, 2005: The applicable VDS has been updated in Applicable Vehicles.
Previous versions of TSB should be discarded.

INTRODUCTION:
Some 2005 model year Tacoma vehicles may exhibit a M.I.L. "ON" condition with one or more of the following DTCs: P0456 or P0455, and P0441 (EVAP Emission Control System). Follow the steps in this bulletin to correct this condition.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES:






- 2005 model year Tacoma vehicles (except D-Cab Short Bed), with the Vehicle Description Section (VDS) information shown.

NOTE:
To locate the VDS, refer to the 4th through 8th digits of the VIN for model applicability, i.e., 5TEJU62NX5Z009820.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Using the Diagnostic Tester, check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). If DTC P0456 or P0445 and P0441 are present, check for an EVAP leak on top of the fuel suction plate sub-assembly. Refer to the ETAS, 2005 model year Tacoma Repair Manual: Diagnostics: SFI System (1GR-FE)/ (2TR-FE): EVAP Inspection Procedure.

If NO EVAP leaks are detected at the fuel suction plate sub-assembly, this TSB does not apply. Please refer to normal diagnostic procedure provided in the repair manual.

2. To correct the fuel suction plate sub-assembly, replace the fuel suction with pump and gauge tube assembly, retainer ring and gasket set according to ETAS, 2005 model year Tacoma Repair Manual: Fuel: Fuel Pump Assy: Removal & Installation And Disassembly & Reassembly (Tacoma).






3. Install the fuel tank protector cover on top of the fuel suction plate sub-assembly as shown in the illustration.
