Transmission Control System
DTC P0705 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input)CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
DTC Detection Condition:
The park/neutral position switch detects the shift lever position and sends signals to the ECM.
The ECM receives signals (PNP SW, REVERSE, DRIVE, 2ND and LOW) from the park/neutral position switch. When the signal is not sent to the ECM from the park/neutral position switch, the ECM judges that the shift lever is in the D position.
MONITOR DESCRIPTION
Monitor Strategy:
Typical Enabling Conditions:
Typical Malfunction Thresholds:
The park/neutral position switch detects the gearshift position and sends the shifter position signal to the ECM. For safety, the engine can be started only when the vehicle is in the P or N gear position.
The ECM will conclude that there is a malfunction if it detects that the park/neutral position switch sent either P or N position signal to the ECM while driving. The ECM will illuminate the MIL and set a DTC.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
Hand-held tester only:
Inspect the vehicle's ECM using check mode. Intermittent problems are easier to detect when the ECM is in check mode with the hand-held tester. In check mode, the ECM uses 1 trip detection logic, which has a higher sensitivity to malfunctions than normal mode (default), which uses 2 trip detection logic.
a. Clear the DTCs.
b. Set the check mode.
c. Perform a simulation test.
d. Check the connector and terminal.
e. Wiggle the harness and connector.
