Introduction

Some 2004 and 2005 model year vehicles equipped with the A750 ATM may experience an intermittent M.I.L. "ON" condition with DTC P2742 (Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor "B" Circuit Low). Replacement of the transmission wire harness will eliminate the condition.

Applicable Vehicles

^ 2004 model year 4Runner (V8) and Land Cruiser vehicles equipped with the A750 automatic transmission.

^ 2005 model year 4Runner, Land Cruiser, Sequoia, Tacoma (V6), and Tundra vehicles equipped with the A750 automatic transmission.

Warranty Information

Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.





Required SSTs

Repair Procedure

1. To start diagnosis of the vehicle for DTC P2742, refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), applicable model and model year Repair Manual:

Diagnostics: Automatic Transmission (A750): P2740, P2742 or P2743.

2. Monitor transmission fluid temperature sensor No. 2 during diagnosis and watch for a short circuit to intermittently occur.

NOTE:
If a short circuit is occurring, the transmission fluid temperature sensor No. 2 will read 302°F (150°C).

3. If no cause for the short circuit is found following the Repair Manual diagnosis, refer to the following sections on TIS to replace the transmission wire harness (P/N 82125-351#0).

4. Adjust fluid to proper level.

^ Refer to TIS, applicable model and model year Repair Manual, to properly adjust fluid level.

5. Test drive vehicle after replacement of transmission wire harness to confirm repair effectiveness.
